Interview with Aliz of Amy's Ashes MT: Amy's Ashes: Give me the history of the band. How you got together, the band name, etc. Aliz: Here’s the story, randomly told. Before Amy’s Ashes me and Eric met
while I was doing some modeling. Eric is a very talented photographer and my
agency contacted him so he could do some shooting with me. We met, but instead
of discussing photo ideas, we ended up chatting about our biggest passion in
life, music. We started hanging out a lot after that. Eric wasn’t in a band
(even though each and every one of us have been playing music since we were
kids), but I was in a band as the only guitarist and I thought that Eric was a
cool guy. After he joined we immediately realized that the music style was not
what we wanted to play and we were not satisfied with the singer. We’ve always
been into electronic, goth and the kinds in-between and we felt that we wanted
to play THAT kind of music. So we contacted Aram, from “The Mist of Avalon”. The
three of us instantly clicked! We all had the same focus, talent, goals and
taste in common. The other band members did not fit into our long term plans so
Aram, Eric and I left the band to start a new one. It was Spring 2007 and there
we were without a drummer, bass player or band name. Aram’s friend, drummer
Matte Modin, was leaving “Dark Funeral” and the timing couldn’t have been
better! A few drinks later and the foundation for a new band formed. I came up
with the band name Amy’s Ashes, which is kind of personal for me but I can say
that it involves a loved one tragically deceased… during the same time the
band looked for a bass player, but we soon realized that we didn't want to risk
messing up the perfect chemistry among us. The bass situation was simply solved
by a session bassist. In February 2008 we entered the studio to record three
songs. Eric and I played guitar and bass on the tracks with Matte on drums and
Aram on vocals. We are now looking for the right label to represent us.
Aliz: People describe it as Gothic Rock. I don’t know what to call it but
it has elements of rock n' roll, electronica and glam, spiced with a touch of
goth. It's catchy, it’s melodic and there is a bit of melancholy. Aliz: There are many. We’ve always been big fans of music so we basically
breathe, eat and shit music all day long. Aram has always been into darker
music. Me and Eric started our musical careers by playing and listening to death
metal, grind core, doom, rock n’ roll, grunge etc. Matte is known for playing in
quite big death/BM-bands and besides Amy’s Ashes he’s also the drummer of Raised
Fist. It’s quite funny that we ended up playing the kind of music we do in Amy’s
Ashes, considering our musical backgrounds. We still listen to our “roots”, even
though we’re into more lighter stuff today. Aliz: When I was 9, one of my friends had a sister who was this cool rock
chick. I don’t remember why, but one day she gave me a mix tape with Guns ‘N
Roses, Metallica, Scorpions and David Bowie. I was so hooked! My parents
remember this clearly because from that moment I kind of transformed. I used to
pound on my Moms saucepans and play air guitar and was probably annoying people
haha... Later on when I was 15 I fell in love with Nirvana and that’s also when
I formed my first band. We played Nirvana covers and we sucked. That’s how it
all started I guess. Aliz: Eric is the one that usually comes up with the first idea or melody
of asong. If we like it then the whole band co-writes it together. Aram is
responsible for the vocal melodies and I’m the main lyricist. Aliz: A 365-day worldwide tour with Type O Negative, Iggy Pop and Amy’s
Ashes! There would be an ambulance, a fully loaded truck with beer and alcohol Aliz: Nikki Sixx during the Dr. Feelgood tour. Aliz: Always been and always will be, Mom and Dad! The things they’ve
lived through as a couple and all the sacrifices they’ve made for the family is
beyond understanding. Aliz: Um…wish I could use my time more efficiently because I think that my
definition of “time” must be of another planet. It takes me around 3 hours to
shower and get dressed!!! And that’s fucked up, especially because I’m not the
slow hippie type! You know, I can’t just do things like get dressed and make my
hair and that’s it, instead I gotta do other stuff during “the process” like
play the right songs in right order on my stereo, make myself a drink, smoke a
cigarette, call someone and so on…yeah, I think you get the point. haha Eric – Pimp Aliz: As soon as we’re done with all the boring details regarding merch,
printing CD's, website etc… We want all of our stuff to kick ass when we come to
your town ;-) Aliz: To play a lot of shows, meet a lot of cool people, release great
albums and to get signed by a big-fat-oily-greasy label stupid enough to support
our naughty deeds! Aliz: Boxers for me and Aram, briefs for Matte and a man-skirt for Eric! Aliz: Type O Negative, Editors, Meshuggah, H.I.M, Tiamat, The 69 Eyes,
Dave Gahan and many many more. Aliz: Girls Girls Girls, when drunk I ALWAYS talk about food which annoys
the guys, I’m tall, I love to shop and I’m THE tequila-virtuoso (challenge me Aliz: My worst habit is that I completely SUCK in saving money! No matter
how thick or thin my wallet is, I’ll spend it ASAP! Umm..I guess that my best Aliz: Originally when we came up with the idea, Carry On was a bit slower
than it is now. The song also changed a lot every time we were working on it. By
the end we discovered that it sounded much more energetic than we expected it to
be. And that also led to my inspiration for the lyrics. In my own weird way so
to speak. The song seems very positive but if you read the lines you’ll discover
that the story is quite sad. Even desperate if you wish. A typical Amy’s-tune
where duality is a major ingredient. Aliz: Do we have fans?! ;D We fucking love you!! Keep writing to us,
that’s what keeps us going! Height: 193 cm = 6 foot 3 inch
