Interview with a Helsinki Vampire, Jyrki 69

Via Email to Helsinki, Finland

9/8/10

mt: With summer festivals finished and the South American tour coming up what are The 69 Eyes plans for the remainder of 2011?

J69: We’re writing new music now and hopefully will get out a new album in the latter half of 2011. I’m very excited, the new stuff is so good!

mt: Which festival did you enjoy performing at the most this summer?

J69: Basically all of them were actually very nice, honestly. I can say that really enjoyed all of them! Our audience really rocks these days, no matter where we go! So thanks guys! It was naturally very cool to play with KISS in Finland in June and meet The Cult at Sonisphere Finland – we’re still music fans after all! Also somehow I think the wildest audience this year was at Summer Breeze in Germany, that was great! And as the Open Mind Festival was in Warsaw, it was great to hang out in Warsaw by night after the show, that city is so cool…

mt: Who is your favorite True Blood character and why?

J69: Bill has naturally a very good style, he dresses up cool. But I think Lafayette would be the most fun guy to go to get wasted with in a bar! Basically all the characters are just amazing actors, that makes the series also so good.

mt: Which 69 Eyes songs do you believe best fit True Blood?

J69: “Graveland”, “Eternal”, “August Moon”, “Only You Can Save Me”, “Star Of Fate” to name a few…I love the series Southern vibe, we’ll have some songs coming up…And I absolutely dig that True Blood Rolling Stone cover – that’s “Back In Blood” of this year!

mt: Favorite vampire movie of all time?

J69: I’d like to say True Blood though it’s not a movie. It’s really the best vampire related stuff there is. Other than that, I love “Fright Night” pretty much.

mt: Favorite vampire music?

J69: The Cramps were pretty much defining the whole scene. They represent old skool – it’s actually funny how much this Bill Compton character looks like Lux Interior sometimes!
